Yvonne Jordaan
I want to begin by saying a great big Thank-you to the MMF for your support in allowing me the path to my future. My desire had always been to work in the non-profit sector in community development at the decision making level. To do this I would need to further my education and obtain a degree of which I was sure I could never afford or find the time for. I already had a busy schedule with a small child and husband and couldn't see how I could go back to school full-time while still contributing to my family. As a long shot I thought I would take my chances and consult with the MMF as they had always been a prevalent organization in the community promoting support for Metis students. I was excited to find out that I met the criteria and actually had a chance.
Because of their support, I was able to enroll in the Campus Manitoba program and not have to relocate. In addition, the MMF support allowed me to access courses from a number of universities and get my degree on an accelerated path, all while remaining with and contributing to my young family.
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts Degree in 2 1/2 years and was able to secure a position as Executive Director in my community at a local non-profit organization focused on community revitalization and development.
Thank you,
Yvonne Jordaan Executive Director The Pas Community Renewal Corporation Neighborhoods Alive! Supported Initiative The Pas, Mb
