Q: What is the purpose of the Métis Community Liaison Deparment?

A: To ensure the well being of métis families of manitoba by promoting healthy lifestyles, métis pride, and self determination within the métis community.

Q: What are the Goals & Objectives of this deparment?

A: Goals & objectives are what define how a deparment can help the community.  If you find yourself in a situation where one of this deparments goals or objectives fits your criteria please contact the deparment for assistance.

The goals of this department are;

- to assist in reducing the number of métis children coming into care
- bridge service gaps
- give métis families a voice

The objectives of this department are;

- support families during crisis and prevent crisis by providing awareness on how to cope
- promote healthy living
- provide education, awareness, and alternatives for families at risk of having children placed in care

Q: What programs & services are available to me through this department?

A: There are several programs & services available through this deparment that focus on attaining the goals and objectives listed above.  If you would like to participate in one or more of these programs or are looking for information about them, it can be obtained by calling Christine Flett @ 204-623-5701.

Community Garden
The Pas, MB
'A local garden where families can grow organic vegetables'
This program is meant to educate about proper diet and increase the health of the métis participants by allowing them to plant, maintain, and grow their own vegetables.

Reunification & Repatriation
Supporting families who wish to reestablish their family unit through referral and advocacy.

Client & Family Support Through Referral & Advocacy
Community Liaison Workers are available to assist individuals and families to access and utilize various services such as;
- Child & Family Services
- Income Security
- Housing
- Justice System
- Family Violence
- Health
- Parenting

Elder's Firewood Program
This program provides elder's with free firewood and related items to alleviate the cost of Hydro.

Bereavement Program
This program provides Métis families with monetary funds to cover a portion of the costs of a funeral.

Neeah Kee Papa
Winnipeg, MB
'A Parenting-Enhancement Program for Fathers'
The program consists of nine units that are delivered to participants over a 7 or 14 week period.

Little Moccasins
Winnipeg, MB
'The Little Moccasins Helathy Baby Program'
This program is a weekly drop-in for moms and wherein they can learn about pre and post natal nutrition and health.  The program is run in partnership with Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Healthy Child Manitoba.
